The Best Just Got Better


The Swinger, the UK’s market-leading pavement sign, is about to undergo a subtle but significant transformation to become even more user friendly.

 
From today, all poster versions of the sign will be fitted with Signwaves’ top-opening poster pockets (patent pending), which replace the existing ‘bottom-opening’ units and bring significant benefits to advertisers:
  • Much easier access to posters – allowing the user to stand up rather than bending down
  • Greatly reduced risk of poster loss – convenient self-closing design with permanently fixed bottom edge and high strength magnetic seals
  • More hygienic - handling area is now much higher off the ground and so further distanced from dirt and litter
Simon Harvey, Product Design Manager at Signwaves, commented: “In response to customer feedback, we began exploring ways to make the Swinger easier to use and give greater poster security. An extensive period of development and testing followed, the result being a pavement sign that we believe to be better in every way, offering practical, tangible benefits that are unique to the Swinger. And our customers agree - during trials, customers have unanimously voted in favour of the top-opening poster pocket versus the previous (and competitors’) ‘bottom-opening’ designs.”
 
Swinger pavement signs are available in a range of sizes and colours, for posters or printed panels. All models feature Signwaves’ patented ‘D-flex’ panel hangers, soft round corners and solid recycled PVC or water-fillable bases, for optimum safety and stability.

The Swinger – A Brief History
 
The Swinger began life as a custom pavement sign for The National Lottery in 1996, designed by Innovation Director David John for easy ‘no tools’ assembly. Having been patented, this provided the basis for a universal pavement sign and the Swinger 2000 was born, of which Wall’s ice cream has been one of the largest users in the UK.
 
The smaller and cheaper Eco Swinger came next in 1999 followed by the Swinger 3000 for 20” x 30” posters, which has been used almost continuously ever since by supermarket giant Tesco.
 
The largest of the range, the Swinger 4000 for A1 posters, arrived in 2003 followed by the Eco Swinger 2 in February 2009 to bridge the gap between the Eco Swinger and Swinger 2000, completing the range.
 
Expanding the features and capabilities of the Swinger, clip-on ‘Tactical Headers’ and water-fillable bases were also developed along the way. Signwaves’ anti-shock ‘D-flex’ panel hangers were introduced in 2008 to further improve lifespan and ease of use. Top-opening poster pockets are the latest in a long line of improvements which together explain why the Swinger is still the UK’s undisputed market-leading pavement sign 13 years on. Made from fully recyclable materials from the outset and designed for easy ‘end of life’ recycling, it’s future proof too.
 
The Swinger’s widespread street presence has also secured its place as a frequent background ‘extra’ in many UK TV and film productions, making regular appearances on soaps such as Coronation Street and Emmerdale!
